The history of Danif

I.M.I / D.I.F / D.A.N.I.F

DANIF, become the current Danish Indonesian organization in 1974, however, the fundament of the organization was already created in the 60´s.

After a change of Government in Indonesia 1965/1966, the Indonesian Embassy, situated at Trondheimsgade moved to be under the Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. In charge in Stockholm was H.E. Ambassador S. Kusumo Widagdo. By summer 1968 the Indonesian Embassy in Copenhagen was closed

On the 9th of December 1968, The Indonesian Government decided to open a Consulate in Denmark, with domicile in Glostrup. The opening of the Consulate, was the opportunity to develop a mutual understanding between Denmark and Indonesia.

I.M.I (Ikatan Masyarakat Indonesia - Union Society Indonesia) was at that time, a small "club" which had existed for a number of years, consisting of 14 Indonesians lead by Mr. and Mrs. Surono.

On the 13th of July 1970, I.M.I became the foundation for DIF (Dansk Indonesisk Forening - Danish Indonesian Society), due to a growing numbers of members and interest from the Danes. DIF had its first official assembly on the 18th of September 1970.

During the first period (18 Sep. - 31 Dec-1970) the previous I.M.I Chairman acted as a "temporary board", until the first General Assembly was held on the 18th of December, where a full board was elected, with Mr. Arne Dyhrberg as Chairman. The first General Assembly consisted of 32 members and four companies; Dumex / A.P. Møller / F.L. Schmidt / Scanfiner. Mr. Arne Dyhrberg stayed Chairman until 1972.

In 1974 DIF changed to DANIF with the present logo, which was designed by Mrs. Surono.
